Date and Walnut Loaf

8 ozs dates, cut up in a bowl
4 ozs sugar
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
Pinch of salt
1 teacup of boiling water
8 ozs self raising flour
2 ozs chopped walnuts
Add the sugar to the dates in the bowl, with the bicarbonate of soda and the salt.
Pour the teacup of boiling water over the above, and mix well together.
Add the self-raising flour, and the walnuts, and mix again.
Divide into 2 loaf tins.
Bake in a moderate oven for 45 minutes at 180C (350F) (Gas 4)
