Delicious home-cooked recipes suggested by the villagers of Winteringham, Lincolnshire

 

Never Fail Cake

Metric measures version - for imperial, click here

450 gm mixed fruit

110 gm margarine

225 gm sugar

225 gm self-raising flour

2 eggs

1 cup water

 

Extras to add if you like: cherries, or sherry, or ground almonds

 

 

 

Put into a pan the fruit, margarine, sugar and water, and then bring to the boil.

 

Simmer for 15 minutes, then leave to cool.

 

Add eggs and flour, cooking for 1½ hours in the oven at 150 centigrade (300F)(Gas 2)
